Music and Clean Hands

MAY 5, 2009

From what I've been hearing, it seems as though we've dodged a bullet regarding the H1N1 virus or swine flu. For a while there were were bombarded with sidebars about various aspects of the outbreak. One that I found particularly interesting was about the length of time required for a proper handwashing. I heard countless radio and TV pieces about how kids should hum Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Happy Birthday while lathering up and even heard about someone who hummed Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Clearly the interface between music and handwashing has yet to be fully explored. It also got me to thinking about what other personal hygiene routines I was short changing because I was not setting them to music. Here are some sketchbook thoughts.

It's a fact: The length of most Ramones songs make them ideal for accompanying handwashing.
